BES Phone Message 5/25

The following message is from Boonville School:

Lunch can be picked up each day this week.  Friday will be the last day that meals are available at Boonville School.  The next four days, meals will only be available from 11-Noon.  This is also the last week for delivery.  Starting in June, food will be available for pickup at a limited number of sites and that information will be sent home later.

This Wednesday, May 27th, we need families to come through the front circle at Boonville school from 3:00-6:00 and bring back any school work that your family would like to return.  Chromebooks, library books, and car line numbers also need to be returned.  IF you purchased a yearbook, those will be given out.  We do not have any unsold extras at this time.

Finally, if you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten, it is very important to sign up as soon as possible.  The registration form is available on the Yadkin County Schools website and you can scroll to the btm to find the registration link.  Also, if your child is in Kindergarten through fourth grade and you will be attending another school in the fall, please go by that school in the next couple weeks to enroll so the new school can request their records from BES.

Important May Dates

Here is the phone message information from Mrs. Johnson. Please note that some dates and times have been changed.

“The following message is from Boonville School and has some important dates:
First, to celebrate the last full week of remote learning, we will have Snow Cone Friday this Friday evening, May 15th from 7:00-8:00 pm.  BES students, their siblings, and even their parents can come through the front circle and get a free snowcone.  Please stay in your car and we will have a simple process in place to ensure social distancing!  If we have a rain shower, we will move to the back circle near the softball field.

On Wednesday, May 20th, we will light up the school with luminaries.  These luminaries will be lit around 8 or 8:30.  The 20th was our original last day of school before the shutdown.  We will light these luminaries to honor the hard work of students, families, and staff during these difficult times and as a symbol that brighter times are coming! The luminaries will be placed around the front circle and down the sidewalks.

Finally, Wednesday, May 27th from 3:00 until 6:00 will be a collection day for any work, books, or Chromebooks that students have at homeWe also need every family to come by school on this day to pick up end of year paperwork like the report cards, feedback forms, and attendance reports.  We also have a lot of fifth and sixth graders with personal items still in their lockers and artwork that still needs to be picked up.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or call the school.“

OFF DAY: April 24 & May 8

You may have noticed two annual leave days on this Friday, April 24 and Friday, May 8.  Yadkin County Schools needed to keep these two annual leave days in the calendar.  This means that these days will be off days for students and teachers.  Please enjoy these days off!

Learning calendars were already created and sent home before teachers and families were aware of school calendar updates.  This means that you will see two extra days of work on your learning calendars.  Please just use what best works for your family and know that you are not expected to double up on assignments.

UPDATED CALENDAR

Good evening.  This is Superintendent Todd Martin.  I am reaching out tonight to let everyone know about changes to our school calendar and make up days due to the coronavirus crisis.  Governor Cooper's first executive order closed schools beginning Monday, March 16th. The week of March 16th through the 20th became teacher workdays so our district could finish putting things in place for remote learning.  Governor Cooper then extended school closure through at least Friday, May 15th.

Under our previous calendar, if we are able to return to school on Monday, May 18th, the last student day would be May 20th with a dismissal time of 12:00 noon. I believe that, if students are able to return, they need more time with their teachers.  We need face to face time with them. Also, our students need a return to normalcy and closure.  Therefore, on our calendar we moved the teacher workdays scheduled after May 20th to the week of March 16th through the 20th.  The five student days from that week in March were moved to the end of May. By doing this, if we are able to return, our students' final day will be Thursday, May 28th.  Monday, May 25th will still be an observed holiday for Memorial Day.

I don't know if we will be able to return or not.  However, I remain hopeful that we will be able to bring students back and I am making plans to accommodate a return to school.  This is important for all our students, but especially for our seniors.  Finally, for those seniors listening tonight, I have written a letter to you that details some of the information regarding grades and your work for the rest of the year.  When you receive the letter please take a couple of minutes to read it in its entirety.  It also contains a personal message to you about the interruption to your senior year.

My thanks to each of you for listening.  Have a good evening.

4/14/20 Classtag Message

Many of you have already picked up new packets or are planning to this afternoon. Thank you for everything you are doing! I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Our goal for at home learning is to offer practice of first grade skills, not to try to recreate what happens in the classroom. This new packet has many days of practice, but please use what best works for you and your family. I hope that you are able to make sweet memories with your children during this time rather than add any extra stress to your day.

I wanted to remind you about my BES website. On my website you can find: digital copies of everything in your child's new packetlinks and apps that your child is familiar with usingnew posts with important information or extra learning ideasand more

REMINDER: Packet Pickup TODAY and TOMORROW

Just a reminder that next packets can be picked up today or tomorrow (April 13th and 14th) in the front circle between 2:00 - 6:00.

Students can bring their completed work, with their names on it, in a zip lock bag and someone will collect it on these two dates.  ** If you followed along with our "1st Grade At Home Learning Calendar", your child has only completed page #3-21 of the math packet.  Please hold on to the math packet to continue working after Spring Break.  You will need to hold on to your Letterland homework notebook too. Just tear out and send in any new work from the notebook.

4/3/20 Classtag Message

Dear Parents,

Next week will be Spring Break and we hope you enjoy that week away from the stress of school work. Here are some important reminders:

1. Next week, meals will continue Monday-Thursday. Pick up still 11-1 and delivery the same.

2.  The office will be open from 7:30-11:30 (at least) but definitely those hours.

3.  Spring pictures are in the office and Mrs. Johnson will take them out to the lunch line on Monday (only).  Other times they can be picked up in the office.

4.  The second packet pickup for student work will be Monday and Tuesday, April 13 & 14 from 3:00-6:00 in the front circle only.  Students can bring their completed work, with their names on it, in a zip lock bag and we will collect it on these two dates.  ** If you followed along with our "1st Grade At Home Learning Calendar", your child has only completed page #3-21 of the math packet.  Please hold on to the math packet to continue working after Spring Break.  You will need to hold on to your Letterland homework notebook too. Spring Break info. from Dr. Martin

Spring break is still scheduled to take place next week, April 6th through April 12th.  We have received guidance from the North Carolina State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction that school districts should continue with their scheduled spring breaks.  By having spring break next week for students and employees, we will not use up students days that could be used if students are able to return to school in May.  We also will continue to provide meal service next week during spring break.  Each of our elementary and middle schools will continue to provide drive up and delivery Monday through Thursday next week.  We are going to give our child nutrition staff and our delivery personnel a day off next Friday during spring break but Thursday's meals will have enough food for Thursday and Friday.  Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation and help during this time.

4/1/20 Classtag Message

I know many of you are using the personal messaging feature on Classtag or emailing me when you have questions or concerns. I also realize that we are all trying to figure out this new adventure together. If you ever feel like you or your child could benefit from a phone call from me, please send me a message and I will call you as soon as possible. I would never want to overwhelm you with calls or messages, but I also do not want you to feel forgotten or alone during this time.

Love and thanks to you all.
